Mr Matroos has over 20 years’ experience in corporate finance both in the United Kingdom and more recently in South Africa. He joined Efora from Sasol where he held the position of vice president: corporate finance, responsible for mergers and acquisitions, and specialised funding for the Sasol Group. He played a significant corporate finance role on a number of Sasol’s major capital projects, including its mining, Gas-to-Liquid (“GTL”) refinery and upstream activities. He holds a B.Com (Accounting) degree and Post Graduate Diploma in Accounting from the University of Cape Town and is a chartered accountant.

Ahlben Phillipus (37) Managing Director
Mr Ahlben Phillipus has been appointed by the Afric Oil board as the Managing Director of Afric Oil. He holds an MBA (WBS), a B. Com (UCT) and is currently completing his ICBB (Six-Sigma Black Belt). He has 13 years consulting and petrochemical experience with KPMG Advisory and Shell Petroleum. He was the Chief Operating Officer of African Group Lubricants prior to joining Afric Oil.
Ahlben has extensive experience within the petroleum energy sector which includes delivering on roles and projects across sales, marketing, supply, distribution, strategy and finance. He is experienced in implementing and executing business operating models and developing new business opportunities.

Keith Ashen (67) Chairman and Non-Executive Director
Mr Ashen is a former Director and General Manager of Engen Petroleum Ltd. He was also non Executive Director, Chairperson of the Remuneration Committee and Member of the Finance Review & Risk Committee of Phembani Coal Carolina (Pty) Ltd.
His experience in the Petroleum Industry span some 35 years and he served in a number of Senior Management and Executive roles in Sales & Marketing, Operations and Human Capital in the industry. In the early days of Mossgas (now PetroSA) was also seconded as part of the team tasked with the Hazard & Operability Study of the Voorbaai facility in Mossel bay.
In 2000, Mr Ashen was instrumental in changing the face of the oil industry in South Africa through the redesign of customer order fulfillment business processes, the introduction of new innovative thinking, technology and leading international best practice.
He is currently the owner of KESA Consulting, providing services to the petroleum sector in Human Capital & Industrial Relations services, people development through coaching and self directed learning programs. Presently Mr Ashen also serves as Interim Chairperson of Africans United, a NPO focused on personal mastery programs, mindfulness, self-care and development.

Kholofelo Masoga (41) Board Member
Kholofelo Mashego-Masoga is a chartered accountant with more than 17 years’ financial governance experience gained at private and public sector entities in executive roles. Her knowledge and experience is coupled with solid knowledge and understanding of regulatory framework governing both sectors.
She has worked in the finance, investment, coal mining; oil-resale, construction; social development and passenger transport sector where she is currently employed as a Chief Financial Officer. She has held board membership and board committee membership in the coal industry and a social development entity. She holds a B Comm (Hons) Accounting Science and CTA from University of Pretoria. She is a member of The South African Institute of Chartered Accountants and Institute of Directors in South Africa.

Dr. Eugenia Kula-Ameyaw is a Social Entrepreneur and Strategist with extensive board experience in both State-Owned Entities and Private Companies. She has served Finance Committees, Strategic Operations Committees and served and chaired Transformation Committees. She has an MBA in Entrepreneurship and Strategy from Oxford Brookes Business School, Board Leadership Certificate from GIBS and various Executive Certificates from Japan, Turin, Italy, and Geneva.
She is passionate about empowering woman and is a founder and chairperson of BWOSA, was a judge for the Inaugural South Africa Premier Business Awards in 2013, and was an expert panellist on Women Economic Empowerment and its link to 2030 agenda on Sustainable development at the UN Commission on the Status of Women in 2016.
