As the first BEE oil company in South Africa, Afric Oil (Proprietary) Limited (Afric Oil), is an industry success story that has gone from strength to strength over the past decade. The company was conceived in 1994 and the operations commenced effectively in 1995.

The company is the brainchild of Pembani Group (Pty) Limited, previously known as Worldwide African Investment Holdings (Worldwide), a distinguished black owned and managed energy focused investment holding company.

Afric Oil was instrumental in paving way for emerging empowerment companies to enter the once closely protected sector of the economy. The company also played a role in the formulation of the Petroleum and Liquid Fuels Empowerment Charter, aimed at redressing historical, social and economic inequalities of the past by gradually ensuring that historically disadvantaged South Africans own and control a quarter of all facets of the liquid fuel industry.

Afric Oil markets and sells diesel, petrol, paraffin and lubricants to a diversified client base that includes local and national government, mining, construction, transport, manufacturing, parastatals, resellers and agricultural industries.

In 2000, the company migrated from the retail market, choosing to narrow the focus in operations to best serve the commercial market.

The company continues to grow its presence in the commercial market.

Due to the company’s access to Engen’s extensive and widely spread infrastructure and depot network, Afric Oil is able to offer its clients continuity of supply across the country. The company’s strong point is product availability, dependable and speedy service.

Afric Oil is also the only emerging oil company with the ability to transport refined product through Transnet Pipeline’s Durban – Johannesburg Pipeline (DJP). This provides additional flexibility when it comes to meeting our customer delivery needs in the Gauteng area and beyond.
